The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Commercial Assistant will be available immediately. Closing date for this position is 11th July 2019.

Minimum Requirements



Two-year experience in marketing, business administration, trade promotion, economic research, information management is required.


Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, marketing, or public relations is required.





Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of mid to high-level contacts in the host government and private sector; to plan, organize and execute complex commercial research projects to prepare precise and accurate reports embodying in-depth analytical evaluations and to render advice with detachment and objectivity, employing sound professional judgement.

Job Specification

Basic Function of the Position:

Under the supervision of the Commercial Officer, performs assignments in conducting research, identifying contacts, and writing reports in order to promote U.S. trade objectives in Kenya and the East Africa regions for assigned industry sectors including professional services, construction, and consumer goods, automotive, plastics and packaging sectors. 

The incumbent maintains close contact with a wide range of working-level and high-level private and public-sector officials in the assigned industry sectors, and counsels visiting U.S. business people and their corresponding local representatives. Incumbent writes various USDOC-standard market reports and is administratively responsible for one or more specialized trade promotion assistance programs (Gold Key Service, International Partner Search, etc.) 

Assists as necessary in research and resolution of trade complaints within the assigned industries. Assists with maintaining the website, reporting of results and contacts in the online database, and coordinating event logistics.
