Introduction

You will provide technical leadership for a set of existing and aspiring programmes in maternal & newborn health (MNH) across VSO’s operational geographies but with an initial priority focus in Africa. The aim is to identify and use programme evidence to develop model(s) and help successfully take MNH programmes to scale through attracting adequate, long term-funding. Preferred location East of A
 

Minimum Requirements

Essential:
•    Technical degree in a field related to maternal and newborn health. 
•    Extensive experience and knowledge of MNH programming. 
•    Strong knowledge of and expertise in maternal and new born health issues in developing country contexts with relation         to the SDGs
•    Evidence of successful technical support that resulted in quality improvement to MNH programmes. 
•    Experience of MNH programme implementation in at least two developing country contexts; one preferably in East                  Africa. 
•    Evidence of innovation in MNH development issues with at least one example that resulted in programme to scale. 
•    Strong evidence of cross thematic and cross functional collaboration and influence that successfully generated funding         for MNH programmes. 
•    Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with a range of demanding actors to deliver results. 
•    Proven experience in budget management, including developing, monitoring and managing relevant expenditure plans. 
•    Excellent understanding and demonstrated experience of project cycle management, organisational assessment,                   planning and M&E tools and processes relevant to MNH.
•    Leadership and people relations skills; including handling complex situations to an effective conclusion; experience of           working in and contributing to high performing teams.
•    Self-motivated, focused, and ability to use own initiative.
•    Oral and written fluency in English, with ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
•    Able to travel, including work away from the home base for at least 30% of time, within targeted programmes in Africa           and for external engagements with some weekend and evening work.

Job Specification

You will provide technical leadership for a set of existing and aspiring programmes in maternal & newborn health (MNH) across VSO’s operational geographies but with an initial priority focus in Africa. The aim is to identify and use programme evidence to develop model(s) and help successfully take MNH programmes to scale through attracting adequate, long term-funding. Preferred location East of Africa but the role could be based in any of the VSO country offices in Africa or Asia.
